This patient has receptive aphasia with fluent but nonsensical speech, difficulty naming objects and poor comprehension. He does not have confusion - he is awake, alert and attentive to the examiner. His difficulty understanding language does not allow for accurate assessment of orientation. Receptive aphasias most often occur due to lesions in the posterior aspect of the left hemisphere, such as Wernecke's area, in the posterior temporal lobe.
