Our patient is a 48-year-old man who is referred for a pre-employment check-up. He had recently applied for a job as a computer programmer.
The patient stated he was in good health and really didn't need a check-up. When asked if he had any symptoms, he responded that he only had occasional indigestion and was under a lot of stress that he related to seeking a new job.
He explained his indigestion as a lower chest discomfort after eating, especially when taking out the garbage after dinner. He had similar symptoms if he became very upset. He stated the symptoms were minor, and only lasted several minutes.
