Lipoproteins

Low density lipoproteins are a major risk factor for the development of coronary atherosclerosis. They transport cholesterol in the plasma and play a key role in the accumulation and incorporation of lipids into the vascular wall. High density lipoproteins protect against coronary artery disease. They remove cholesterol from the peripheral tissues and transport it back to the liver.
