Next, we shall evaluate our patient's jugular venous pulse, both the central venous pressure and the wave form. Looking at the venous pulse on the inferolateral aspect of the sternocleidomastoid, I estimate our central venous pressure to be at the upper limits of normal. The next step is to evaluate the contour. We shall again use the cotton swab that reflects the carotid, so we may time the impulses seen in the jugular venous pulse.
