Occlusive Thrombus
An occlusive thrombus is the result of rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque. Plaque disruption causes exposure of collagen and atheromatous debris to the luminal blood, both of which are thrombogenic. The resulting thrombus is composed of platelets, fibrin, and red blood cells.
