By using an orderly approach, the physician is able to correlate bedside observations and laboratory data findings with pathophysiology and the basic elements of cardiac pathology.
Heart specimen
This is a pathology specimen from a 41-year-old patient with an acute extensive inferolateral wall myocardial infarction. Note the dark necrotic tissue involving the whole thickness of the inferolateral wall along with hemorrhagic areas.
Coronary specimen
This is a pathology specimen of a coronary artery from a patient with an acute transmural myocardial infarction. Note the atherosclerotic plaque partially narrowing the lumen and the thrombus that totally occludes the vessel.
