Having evaluated our patient’s precordial impulse in terms of its location and size, we shall now evaluate contour. I put light pressure at the apex and I can clearly feel the contour. To share it with you, I shall use a cotton swab at the apex, and so that you can have a timing device, I shall place another on the carotid vessel, and then you’ll know when systole occurs, and you’ll be able to share with me the apical movement in our patient. Let us observe together. [Cut-away]
