Drug Treatment

Drug treatment in our patient should be initiated without delay, because he has stage 2 hypertension. His level of blood pressure elevation is unlikely to respond to lifestyle modification alone, and he has evidence of target organ damage. Drug treatment should be combined with long range lifestyle modification and patient education.

The treatment of all patients with prehypertension and hypertension includes appropriate life-style modification, weight reduction, salt restriction, adequate potassium intake, reduced intake of saturated fat and cholesterol, aerobic exercise, moderation of alcohol and caffeine intake and smoking cessation.
