Sagittal section
This is a pathology specimen from a patient with left ventricular hypertrophy due to longstanding hypertension. The left atrium, left ventricle and aorta are well seen. Note the marked thickening of the walls of the left ventricle with a decrease in cavity size. Note also the concomitant hypertrophy of the left atrial wall.

Cross section
This is a cross sectional pathology specimen from another patient with longstanding hypertension. This view clearly demonstrates severe concentric hypertrophy of the left ventricle with a marked reduction in left ventricular cavity size.
