Cushing's Syndrome - Pre and Post Treatment


This lateral view from a different patient with Cushing's syndrome (image on the left) clearly shows an additional feature of the general appearance, the buffalo hump. The frontal view (image on the right) of still another patient demonstrates chest and abdominal striae, another typical finding seen in patients with Cushing's syndrome.

If the physical examination suggests Cushing's syndrome, appropriate laboratory testing should be carried out. 24-hour urinary free cortisol levels are elevated. The level of plasma cortisol drawn in the morning is not suppressed by a low dose of dexamethasone given at bedtime.
