This is a pathology specimen from a patient with a secundum atrial septal defect. The large right atrium has been opened exposing a large defect. A remnant of the septum primum with two large holes is seen bridging the defect. Also seen are the inferior vena cava, the coronary sinus and the pulmonary artery
