Next, we shall evaluate our patient's jugular venous pulse, located on the inferolateral aspect of the sternocleidomastoid. It is readily observed and the venous pressure is readily estimated. The impulse is at about the level of the sternal angle, that is, it is a normal central venous pressure.
Next, we will evaluate the contour of the venous impulse and to do that, we'll use as a timing device the carotid vessel. Observe the tip of the cotton swab while we also observe the venous impulse together.
