Patients with an atrial septal defect and mitral valve prolapse may present with the typical findings of an atrial septal defect along with the classic auscultatory findings of an apical mid systolic click or clicks with or without the late systolic, crescendo, high frequency murmur of mitral regurgitation. Both lesions may present with episodes of palpitations.
