RV Enlargement, ↑ Central Pulmonary Arteries and ↓ Peripheral Markings PA and Lat

These chest X rays show right ventricular enlargement, prominent central pulmonary arteries and decreased peripheral lung markings.
In this PA view, there is a cardiothoracic ratio greater than fifty percent. In view of our patient's other findings, this is probably due to right ventricular enlargement. The dilated right atrium forms a convex shadow along the lower right cardiac border. The main pulmonary artery and its central branches show increased prominence bilaterally. The peripheral lung fields show decreased markings. These findings are compatible with pulmonary hypertension. Note the two monitoring electrodes.

In the lateral view demonstrates right ventricular enlargement with decreased retrosternal air space. An enlarged central pulmonary artery can also be seen.
