You have completed the history and physical examination of a 16- year-old male with findings consistent with musculoskeletal chest wall and shoulder pain. These initial steps in the cardiovascular examination are the cornerstone for further evaluation and therapy.

At this point, the only laboratory tests to be considered are low cost, low risk, high yield procedures such as blood chemistries, to assess coronary risk factors, an electrocardiogram and chest x ray. They also serve as a useful baseline for the future.

His blood work was normal, including his glucose and lipids.
