Patients with peripartum cardiomyopathy typically present with congestive heart failure in the last trimester or within six months postpartum. Our patient clearly does not have peripartum cardiomyopathy, as she has had no recent pregnancy.
Conditions often associated with peripartum cardiomyopathy include multiparity, older age, and pre-eclampsia. The precise etiology is unclear.
