A calcified mitral annulus is most often an incidental finding of chest X ray or an echocardiogram. The most common associated hemodynamic abnormality is mitral regurgitation, reflected by an apical systolic murmur. Rarely, mitral annular calcification may be a cause of mitral stenosis.
