You are incorrect - our patient's apical impulse contour is sustained throughout systole and there is an early diastolic component.

Your choice: Early systolic + early diastolic

An early systolic impulse with an early diastolic component might be felt in the normal patient. The diastolic component is the palpable equivalent of an audible third heart sound. Third heart sounds can be heard in normal patients and may be palpable in this setting. In the video that follows, note the early systolic apical impulse occurs just before the carotid pulse and the early diastolic component occurs just after the carotid pulse.
