Patients with drug induced pericarditis have taken medications that trigger an immunologic response. These patients experience the onset of symptoms due to pericardial inflammation weeks to months after initiation of treatment. Examples include procainamide, hydralazine, dilantin and isoniazid. Drug induced pericarditis is frequently associated with effusion.
